Cellphone footage showing a lethal ambush on a Russian truck in Kiev was posted on social media moments after the incident on Friday.
Three soldiers, allegedly Russians disguised as Ukrainians, died at the end of a violent firefight that lasted more than two minutes. The footage was filmed by civilians from apartments overlooking the scene.
A video posted to Twitter shows a six-wheel truck, carrying a double-barreled anti-aircraft gun, being attacked just before 7:00am local time (5:00 GMT) while driving at high speed in the middle of the road in the residential neighborhood of Obolon, along north of the city.
Four of its six wheels are punctured and the driver appears unable to steer as he crosses two roads, edges of grass and asphalt before pulling into a parking lot.
When the truck stops, a Ukrainian soldier hides behind a white Transit-sized van 20 meters away and opens fire.
A soldier from the anti-aircraft gun truck jumps to the ground wounded, possibly shot by the soldier behind the van. He tries to protect himself, his head resting on the middle wheel of the vehicle on the opposite side of the gunman’s truck.
Meanwhile, the soldier behind the white van opens fire on the cab of the truck, whose driver is killed.
As he does so, a second Russian vehicle – a caterpillar-tracked missile launcher – is attacked as it rolls down a road behind the truck. Suddenly, he veers to the left, crushing a black car in the opposite direction.
The Ukrainian soldier cautiously moves around the front of the truck and, having a clear view of the Russian lying on the ground, shoots five times, killing him.
