PONTE NOVA, Brazil. A 40-year-old man who attacked his ex-partner with a hatchet in the street was killed after a pedestrian intervened with a metal bar, according to police accounts cited in local reporting.
The attack happened on Wednesday afternoon, April 8, in the Santo Antônio neighborhood of Ponte Nova, a city in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais. The woman, 39, was walking with a friend when her former partner arrived on a motorcycle.
Security camera footage shows the man getting off the motorcycle and moving toward the woman before the attack. The video records him striking her repeatedly as she falls to the ground. The footage then shows a man approaching with a metal bar and hitting the attacker in the head area until he also falls.
The attacker was identified in reports as Reginaldo Pinheiro Superbi, 40. His name also appeared in some accounts as Reginaldo Superbi Pinheiro. The injured woman’s name was not released in the material reviewed.
According to the reported police record, witnesses said the attacker approached the woman and threatened her before the assault.
