Pregnant passenger dies after dashcam head-on crash on Valea Oltului, Romania.
NEWS:
A pregnant passenger died after a head-on crash on DN7 in Valea Oltului, Romania, after an oncoming car crossed the center line and struck the vehicle she was riding in, according to police information and video from the scene.
The crash happened Monday afternoon, April 13, 2026, on DN7 near Tuțulești, in Racovița commune, Vâlcea County. Initial traffic information reported three vehicles involved, but police later corrected the number to two cars.
Dashcam footage records the moment of impact. The video shows a yellow car traveling in its lane on the road, with the railway running near the roadway. An oncoming car moves across the solid center line and hits the yellow vehicle head-on. The impact sends the yellow car off the road and leaves it overturned near the railway area.
Police said preliminary checks indicated that a 53-year-old man from Ilfov County entered the opposite lane and collided frontally with a car driven by a 27-year-old man from Sibiu County. The 27-year-old driver’s car was thrown toward the railway area after the crash.
The pregnant passenger was in the overturned car. Emergency crews removed her unconscious from the wreckage and began resuscitation at the scene. A SMURD helicopter from Dolj was requested to take her to a hospital in Craiova because of the severity of her condition.
Four people were injured in the crash. Emergency officials said the driver of the overturned car was taken to the emergency unit in Sibiu. Two other victims, one male and one female, were taken to the emergency unit in Vâlcea. The pregnant passenger was airlifted to Craiova after being resuscitated.
Later updates said the pregnant passenger was 23 years old. Local reports said she was 26 weeks pregnant and had been intubated after arriving in Craiova. The same updates said the unborn child died before doctors later confirmed that the woman had also died.
The other injured people were reported transported for medical care, but the available public updates did not provide a final medical condition for each of them. No official public record located during review confirmed any criminal charge, detention or judicial measure linked to the crash.
The crash also affected transportation in the area. The initial traffic bulletin said road traffic on DN7 was stopped in both directions and that one vehicle had been projected outside the roadway near the railway. Later updates said rail traffic was also affected because of the position of the wrecked car near the railway area.
Traffic on DN7 was later reopened. One update said road traffic resumed after 5 p.m. The correction issued later in the day clarified that the crash involved two cars, not three, despite the first public traffic alert.
The confirmed facts from the available record are that the crash occurred on DN7 near Tuțulești, the dashcam footage shows a car crossing into the opposite lane before the frontal impact, the pregnant passenger was extricated unconscious and airlifted to Craiova, and she later died after the crash. The exact procedural status of the driver accused of crossing into the opposite lane was not confirmed in the public material reviewed.
