A fatal shooting captured on security video left a pregnant woman dead in Jalapa, Guatemala, after a gunman approached a couple outside a home and fired multiple shots. The woman, identified by police as 30 year old Dayana Osoy Cabrera, was about eight months pregnant. Authorities said both she and her unborn baby died from the attack.

The incident happened on the night of Friday, February 27, 2026, in the Linda Vista neighborhood. Police said another person, 46 year old Mauricio Pérez Morales, was also wounded and taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

The video, recorded at about 00:7:08 p.m. local time, documents the moments immediately before and during the attack. The footage shows a man and a woman stepping out from a residence and moving toward the street. The man climbs onto a motorcycle and starts it, while the woman remains close by, facing him as they continue talking. Roughly a dozen seconds after they appear outside, a third person enters the frame walking directly toward them with a handgun in his hand.

As the gunman closes the distance, he raises the weapon and fires repeatedly at close range. The woman falls first. The man then drops to the ground as well. In the seconds that follow, the man appears to try to push himself up, but collapses again. The shooter quickly backs away and leaves the area.

Because the video captures the act itself, the basic sequence is clear, the attacker approaches on foot, pulls a handgun, and fires multiple times at the couple at close range, then flees. What the video does not show is why the couple was targeted, whether there was any earlier interaction off camera, or what events led up to the shooting earlier that day.

Police said officers launched an operation soon after the shooting and detained a man they described as the main suspect. Authorities identified him as Heber Leonel Sandoval Orellana. Police said he tried to run when he noticed officers nearby, and that they seized a Glock pistol, 9mm caliber, along with an empty magazine. Investigators also recovered spent cartridge casings at the scene, which prosecutors collected as evidence for the case.

Authorities have not publicly described a motive. They have also not released additional details about what relationship, if any, existed between the suspect and the victims, or whether investigators believe the shooting was tied to a personal dispute, retaliation, or another cause.
