Body found in field during search for missing Nelson man in Burnley, England.

NEWS:

A body was found in a secluded field in Burnley during the search for a missing man from Nelson, police said.

Officers were called to Westgate in Burnley at around 00:2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, after reports that a man had been found dead in a field. Police said they believed the body was that of Mohammed Aslam, 53, although formal identification had not yet taken place at the time of the update.

Aslam had been reported missing from his home in Nelson on April 1. Police said the last reported sighting of him was in Burnley town center the following day.

The video linked to the search shows CCTV-style footage connected to the last known sightings of Aslam. The footage supports the reported timeline of his movements before he was found, but it does not show the discovery of the body or establish a cause of death.

Police said his suspected death was not being treated as suspicious. His family was informed after the discovery.

Earlier appeals had asked the public for help finding Aslam and included details from sightings in Burnley. Later updates said officers had carried out extensive searches before the body was found in the secluded field.

No arrest was announced in connection with the death. Police did not report evidence of a violent crime in the available updates.

A file was expected to be passed to the coroner in due course.
