Bus crashes into motorcycle on National Highway 19, killing two riders in Gia Lai, Vietnam.
NEWS:
A passenger bus crashed into a motorcycle on National Highway 19 in Gia Lai Province, Vietnam, killing both men on the motorcycle at the scene.
The fatal crash happened at about 00:12:30 a.m. on April 21 at Km 88+400 of National Highway 19, through Tân Định hamlet in An Bình Ward. The bus was traveling from Pleiku toward Quy Nhơn when it collided with a motorcycle moving in the opposite direction.
The passenger bus was reported as a vehicle operated by the Dũng Lệ transport company and carried the plate number 77B-024.xx. The motorcycle involved in the crash carried the plate number 81AF-047.xx.
The two men on the motorcycle were residents of An Bình Ward. They were identified in official and local reporting by the initials V.V.L. and Đ.M.H. Both died at the scene. Authorities had not publicly determined which of the two men was operating the motorcycle.
The video published with the case records the collision between the passenger bus and the motorcycle on the roadway. The footage supports the central fact of the crash itself. It does not, by itself, establish the cause of the collision, the speed of either vehicle, the precise point of impact, or which motorcycle rider was in control of the bike.
Initial verification found that both men on the motorcycle were not wearing helmets. That detail was reported as part of the early verification after the crash, not as a completed finding on the cause of the accident.
The bus driver was identified as a man born in 1977 and living in Hoài Nhơn Đông Ward. Quick checks found no alcohol concentration and a negative drug test for the driver. No public report reviewed for this article stated that the driver had been arrested or charged.
Gia Lai police opened an investigation into the fatal crash. The available public information says the case was transferred for further verification and clarification by investigators.
The crash occurred during a period of heightened concern over road deaths in Gia Lai. Provincial traffic safety officials later reported that, during the first quarter of 2026, Gia Lai recorded 181 traffic accidents, with 131 deaths and 81 injuries. Officials also reported that, in the week from April 15 to April 21, the province recorded seven traffic accidents, leaving six people dead and three injured.
Provincial traffic safety data also said most crashes in Gia Lai occurred on roads and that many involved motorcycles. Reported common factors included lack of attention, traveling in the wrong lane, and moving against traffic. Those broader findings describe provincial crash patterns and do not assign a cause to the National Highway 19 collision.
The confirmed facts in this case remain limited: a passenger bus and a motorcycle collided on National Highway 19 in Gia Lai, two motorcycle riders died at the scene, the bus driver tested negative for alcohol and drugs, and police continued to examine the cause of the fatal crash.
