Son kills sleeping father with machete in Bengkalis, Indonesia.

NEWS:

A 19-year-old man killed his father with a machete inside their home in Bengkalis Regency, Riau, Indonesia, on Tuesday afternoon, April 7, after an earlier family dispute, police said.

The victim was identified as Rijal Pasaribu, 47. The suspect was identified only by the initials RMMP. Police said the killing happened in Desa Tasik Serai, Kecamatan Talang Muandau, Kabupaten Bengkalis.

The video published with this article shows the fatal act inside the home. The footage confirms the machete attack itself, but it does not independently establish the motive, the earlier argument, or the full sequence before the assault. Those details come from police statements and witness accounts cited in the investigation.

Police said the case was first reported by residents at about 00:1:19 p.m. local time. Bhabinkamtibmas personnel and officers on duty went to the scene to check the report. When officers entered the house, they found Rijal lying inside a bedroom with severe wounds to his head and neck.

Bengkalis Police Chief AKBP Fahrian Saleh Siregar said the initial examination found serious machete wounds to the head and neck. He said the neck wound was so severe that it was nearly severed. A preliminary medical examination also found open wounds to the head, neck, and chest, along with indications of fractures to the skull and neck.

According to police, witnesses said Rijal had argued with his wife earlier that morning, around 8 a.m., over a request for money. After the argument, the wife left the house to go to a field. Rijal remained at home with his son.

Police said investigators suspect the earlier dispute triggered RMMP’s anger. Around 1 p.m., while Rijal was sleeping in the bedroom, RMMP allegedly took a machete from a storage area and attacked him repeatedly.

Police said Rijal died at the scene.

Officers from the Pinggir Police Criminal Investigation Unit, led by Iptu Donni Widodo Siagian, secured RMMP at the location shortly after the killing. Police said he was taken into custody without resistance and brought to the Pinggir Police station for questioning.

Investigators also secured evidence, including the machete allegedly used in the attack and clothing belonging to the suspect and the victim. Rijal’s body was taken to Mandau Regional Hospital for a visum et repertum, a formal postmortem medical examination used in Indonesian criminal investigations.

In a later police account, Pinggir Police Chief AKP Agung Rama said RMMP told investigators he was angry because his father had allegedly abused his mother. Police described the suspected motive as accumulated resentment tied to repeated domestic conflict. That motive remains attributed to police questioning and has not been independently proven by the video.

Police also said the psychological condition of RMMP was being examined by a psychology team from Riau Police. The assessment was intended to evaluate his mental state, emotional stability, and any psychological factors that could be relevant to the investigation.

As of the latest information found, RMMP remained in police custody. Available reports did not confirm a final criminal charge, indictment, trial date, or court ruling.
