A landlord-tenant dispute in Canada has drawn widespread attention after a tenant posted a series of videos documenting confrontations with his landlady, beginning with an argument over a backyard barbecue and escalating into allegations of unauthorized entry, physical aggression, changed locks and the removal of a door.

The man, who posts under the Instagram account Tiwana Farm Survivor, presented the clips as a record of what he described as repeated harassment at the rental property. The footage shows several separate encounters, but the videos primarily document the tenant’s side of the dispute and do not by themselves establish the full legal or factual history between the parties.

The dispute began with a barbecue

The video that first drew broad attention shows the landlady confronting the tenant while he and a friend were using a barbecue outside the property. She appears concerned about damage to the building and objects to the gathering, while the tenant insists that he should be able to have a guest and prepare dinner without interference.

A second clip from the same confrontation shows the argument moving to the grill itself. The woman is seen interfering with food being cooked while the tenant and his friend challenge her presence and behavior.

Later videos show the conflict moving inside the rental unit

After the barbecue footage circulated, the tenant posted additional recordings that he said showed a broader pattern of interference. In one clip, the woman is seen entering the unit during another confrontation. Objects are thrown and the encounter becomes physical while the tenant repeatedly tells her to leave.

Other footage posted by the tenant shows several men entering the premises while he challenges their right to be inside the rental space. He also alleged that the locks had been changed without his permission and said that his rent had already been paid through mid-August.

In another update, the tenant filmed the entrance to the unit after the door had apparently been removed. He said the unit had been entered again and that he no longer had a way to properly secure his belongings.

British Columbia law places limits on landlord entry and lock changes

The social-media posts identify the dispute as taking place in British Columbia. Under the province’s Residential Tenancy Act, a landlord generally cannot enter a rental unit without the tenant’s permission unless one of several exceptions applies. Those exceptions include emergencies, abandonment, an official order or written notice provided at least 24 hours in advance for a reasonable purpose.

British Columbia law also protects a tenant’s right to reasonable privacy and quiet enjoyment. The statute prohibits a landlord from unreasonably restricting access to a rental property by the tenant or by people the tenant permits on the property. Provincial rules also say a landlord generally cannot change the locks to a rental unit unless the tenant agrees and receives new access.

Those rules provide legal context for the tenant’s allegations, but whether any specific entry, lock change or other act in the videos violated the law would depend on facts that are not established by the clips alone, including the tenancy agreement, prior notices, consent and any emergency circumstances.

Video shows the landlady being taken into custody

The final clip in the sequence shows police officers arriving and placing the woman under arrest. She appears surprised and asks to contact her daughter before officers handcuff her and lead her away.

The available video confirms that an arrest took place, but the material reviewed does not establish what charge, if any, was ultimately approved or what happened after the arrest. An arrest is not a finding of guilt.

The dispute illustrates how a private tenancy conflict can become a public record once a series of phone videos spreads online. In this case, the footage provides direct visual evidence of several confrontations, while many of the broader claims about the tenancy still depend on the account of the person who recorded and posted the videos.
