NEWS:
A 32-year-old motorcycle rider died after suffering a severe neck wound believed to have been caused by a kite string while traveling through Karawang Regency in West Java, Indonesia.
The incident occurred on April 30, 2026, along Jalan Dusun Kedung Waringin in Kutapohaci village, Ciampel district. Police reports placed the time at approximately 00:3:30 p.m., while an initial social media account listed the incident closer to 4 p.m.
The victim was publicly identified only by the initial C. He was a daily laborer and a resident of Mulyasejati village in Ciampel.
The published footage shows the immediate aftermath on the road. The rider remains on or against his motorcycle with a catastrophic wound to his neck and extensive bleeding. People approach the scene as his condition rapidly deteriorates.
The recording documents the seriousness of the injury but does not clearly identify who was flying the kite, where the line originated or how long it had been suspended across the roadway.
Police said the motorcycle stopped abruptly near the side of the road. The victim was still conscious long enough to shout for help.
Two people in the area reportedly heard his cries. According to statements collected by investigators, the injured man said that he had been struck or caught by a line before losing consciousness.
Another witness approached the motorcycle and found blood flowing heavily from the victim’s neck and soaking his clothing. Residents called for assistance and helped officers from Ciampel Police transport him to Karawang Regional General Hospital.
Contrary to the first social media report, the victim was not officially declared dead at the scene. Medical personnel pronounced him dead after he arrived at the hospital.
The available reporting does not establish whether he fell from the motorcycle after the line contacted him. Police accounts said he was found on the motorcycle, and no verified report described a collision with another vehicle.
Officers from Ciampel Police, the Karawang Police response unit and the police identification team examined the scene. Investigators interviewed witnesses, documented the location and opened an official incident report.
The preliminary police assessment was that a kite string had cut the rider’s neck while he was traveling along the road. Investigators did not immediately rule out other possible causes.
No autopsy was performed. The victim’s family declined the procedure and accepted the death as an accident. Without an autopsy or publicly released forensic report, the exact structures damaged in the neck and the formal medical cause of death were not disclosed.
Police did not publicly confirm whether the line was ordinary cotton string, synthetic line or abrasive kite-fighting string coated with glass or another cutting material. Some social media posts described it as gelasan, a sharpened type of kite string, but that specific material was not established in the available police statements.
No person was publicly identified as the owner or user of the line. No reliable update found by June 15, 2026, reported an arrest, criminal charge or seizure connected to the incident.
Police warned that kite strings can pose a serious threat to people traveling on motorcycles, particularly when lines cross roads at neck height and are difficult to see.
Authorities urged residents not to fly kites near busy roads and warned against using materials capable of causing severe cuts. Motorcycle riders were also advised to exercise additional caution in open areas where kite flying is common.
