Man killed with iron pipe while riding motorcycle in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand.

NEWS:

A 30-year-old man was killed after an attacker riding a motorcycle struck him in the head with an iron pipe as the two motorcycles passed each other on a village road in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, Thailand.

The fatal attack occurred at approximately 00:10:40 a.m. on April 28, 2026, along the road connecting Khlongkha Lek School and Ban Sai Rak in Moo 8, Kaho subdistrict, Nopphitam district.

The victim was publicly identified by the nickname Bas. Most reports listed him as 30 years old, although one televised account described him as 29.

Security camera footage records the central act. Bas is riding a motorcycle along the road when another motorcycle approaches from the opposite direction. The other rider is carrying a long metal object in one hand.

As the motorcycles pass, the rider swings the object directly at Bas’s head and face. The blow knocks Bas from his motorcycle, sending him and the bike crashing onto the road.

The attacker continues riding after the impact. The recording then shows him turning around and returning toward the location. He retrieves the iron pipe before leaving the area on the motorcycle.

The footage establishes that the pipe attack occurred while both men were riding. It also shows the attacker returning after Bas had fallen. The video does not establish what was said before the collision, what occurred away from the camera, or the full history of the dispute.

Rescue workers and officers from Nopphitam Police Station responded to the scene. Bas was found unconscious in the roadway with catastrophic injuries to his face and head. Reports from the scene described exposed brain tissue.

Paramedics transported him to Nopphitam Hospital. Because of the severity of his condition, he was transferred to Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital. He died from his injuries later that day.

Police identified the suspected attacker as Padungdet, known as Top, who was reported to be 27 years old. Investigators used the CCTV recording and information gathered in the area to track him.

Padungdet was taken into custody within the same day. Reports differed on whether officers arrested him while he was hiding at a relative’s home or whether the group surrendered at the police station. The confirmed result is that Padungdet and two other men were placed in police custody after the killing.

The other detainees were described as Padungdet’s father and another relative or associate. Local accounts said the three men and Bas were related, while some reports also described Padungdet and Bas as neighbors.

According to statements attributed to the detainees, the group had been riding through the area looking for Bas following a prolonged personal and family dispute. They reportedly told investigators that Bas had repeatedly insulted or verbally confronted them over an extended period.

The reported confession said Padungdet’s father saw Bas and called for him to stop. Bas continued riding. Padungdet then encountered him while approaching from the opposite direction and struck him with the iron pipe.

Those claims about planning, insults and the family dispute come from statements attributed to the suspects and police. They are not independently established by the security footage. The recording proves the physical attack but does not prove the motive or the extent of each detained man’s involvement.

Police reportedly recovered an iron pipe approximately one meter, or slightly more than three feet, long. Padungdet was later taken back to the area for a police reenactment connected to the attack and the recovery of the weapon.

Investigators were reported to be preparing homicide charges. Published accounts differed over the initial legal classification. Some described the allegation against Padungdet as intentional murder, while others reported that police were considering joint premeditated murder because the men had allegedly gone looking for Bas before the attack.

The legal difference is significant. An allegation that the killing was planned in advance would require evidence beyond the visible strike, including communications, statements, the movements of the three men and proof of a shared intention. Detention and an initial police accusation do not constitute a criminal conviction.

The footage also does not establish whether the pipe itself caused every fatal injury or whether Bas suffered additional trauma when his head and body struck the pavement. The attack caused the crash, and he died after sustaining severe head and facial injuries, but a definitive medical mechanism would require an autopsy or formal forensic report.

No accessible autopsy report, charging document or court ruling was located. No reliable public update found by June 15, 2026, confirmed whether prosecutors formally charged all three detained men, whether a court ordered them held before trial, or whether the legal classification was later changed.
