Head-on crash kills three near Knyazha in Cherkasy Oblast, Ukraine.

Three people were killed and two others were hospitalized after two vehicles collided near the village of Knyazha in Cherkasy Oblast, Ukraine.

The crash happened on April 30, 2026, on the Zolotonosha, Cherkasy, Smila, Uman highway near Knyazha, in the Zvenyhorodka district. Police said the vehicles involved were a Ford Galaxy and a Skoda Kodiaq.

According to the preliminary police account, the 54-year-old driver of the Ford Galaxy failed to choose a safe speed, entered the oncoming lane and collided with the Skoda Kodiaq, which was being driven by a 42-year-old man.

Both drivers died in the crash. A 52-year-old passenger in the Ford Galaxy also died. Two other Ford passengers, men aged 34 and 40, were hospitalized.

The regional military recruitment office said two of the people killed were servicemen from the Zvenyhorodka territorial recruitment and social support center. The third fatal victim was a civilian. The same office said another serviceman and a civilian were taken by ambulance to a medical facility with injuries of varying severity.

Published footage and images from the scene show severe front-end damage to the vehicles and debris scattered across the roadway. Seed material carried by one of the vehicles spilled onto the road after the impact, according to police information released after the crash.

Police opened criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 286 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code, which covers violations of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation rules that cause the deaths of several people.

Investigators from the transport crimes investigation unit entered the case into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations. Police said investigative actions were underway and several expert examinations had been ordered.

No official public material reviewed identified the dead by name. No final crash reconstruction, toxicology result, vehicle inspection conclusion or formal determination of criminal liability was found in the available public record.
