Teen shot dead by gunmen on bicycle in Macapá, Brazil.
NEWS:
A 17-year-old boy was shot dead in broad daylight on Wednesday, April 8, in the Muca neighborhood of Macapá, the capital of Amapá state in northern Brazil.
The victim was identified in local reporting as Leandro Santos de Freitas. He was killed on Avenida José Mauro Silva do Nascimento, near the Sambódromo area, after two men approached on a bicycle and opened fire.
The video being published with this article shows the attack in the street. Two men on a bicycle move toward the victim, stop near him, and the shooting happens at close range. The footage directly shows the public attack and the suspects leaving the area by bicycle. It does not show any argument, chase, prior confrontation or confirmed motive before the gunfire.
Police information cited in local reporting said a team from the 1st Battalion of the Military Police was patrolling near the Sambódromo when it was alerted through Ciodes about a person who had been shot in the area. When officers arrived, they found the teenager on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
Emergency medical workers were called, but the victim was declared dead at the scene. Other reporting said the shooting happened at about 5 p.m. and that the teenager died before he could be taken for treatment.
The attack was described as an execution-style shooting because the two suspects reportedly approached directly, fired at the teenager and fled immediately. No source reviewed for this article identified the gunmen by name. No arrest had been reported in the available coverage.
The victim was described as a native of Portel, in Pará state. He had reportedly moved to Amapá about six months earlier and was living in Santana, a city near Macapá. Local accounts said he traveled to the capital daily to work with his father.
Family members said the teenager worked as a construction helper. He was reportedly helping his father at a house near the place where he was killed. His father said he did not know any reason why his son would have been targeted and described him as someone who rarely left home except to work.
Police information cited in local reporting said there were no records of criminal history involving the teenager. That point was repeated by more than one local outlet, but no official criminal record document was publicly available in the material reviewed.
One report attributed to the acting commander of the 1st Battalion said shell casings were found at the scene and may have come from a pistol. The type of firearm was not confirmed in a publicly available official report.
The case was assigned to homicide investigators in Amapá. Available reports said the Delegacia de Homicídios e de Proteção à Pessoa would investigate the killing. As of the latest material found during this review, the motive had not been established and the two men seen fleeing by bicycle had not been publicly identified.
