Motorcycle gunmen kill two at gas station in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
NEWS:
Two gunmen traveling on a motorcycle killed two men and wounded two other people after opening fire at a gas station on Vía a la Costa, near Guayaquil, Ecuador.
The shooting happened on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at a service station near kilometer 40 of the highway, close to the El Consuelo community and along the Progreso-to-Guayaquil route.
Surveillance footage records the attack near a black double-cab pickup parked beside a commercial establishment inside the gas station.
The video shows the motorcycle arriving with two men aboard. One of them gets off, walks around the pickup and repeatedly fires toward its occupants. The second man remains on the motorcycle and waits for the shooter. The two attackers then leave the scene together.
The footage directly establishes the use of the motorcycle, the gunman’s movement around the pickup and the shooting itself. It does not establish the motive, the identities of the attackers or what happened before they arrived.
The two men killed were identified as Vicente Gregorio Álvarez Coque and Edwin Steven Mazza Banguera. Both died at the scene.
Two other people were wounded. One was a gas station attendant, and the other was a 70-year-old man. Police information released after the shooting said both survivors had gunshot wounds to their lower extremities.
The injured men were taken to a medical facility. Their conditions were reported as stable in the initial police account. No later reliable medical update reviewed before publication indicated that either man had died.
Authorities collected at least 13 pieces of ballistic evidence at the scene, according to preliminary investigative information. Criminal investigation units examined the gas station and the area surrounding the pickup after emergency responders removed the wounded.
Relatives of the men who died told local reporters that the pair had left with friends and were traveling toward the beach. Authorities did not publicly establish whether both men were specifically targeted or whether the two surviving victims were struck while near the intended targets.
The attack occurred during heavy return traffic from coastal resorts toward Guayaquil following the Labor Day holiday period. The shooting took place inside a functioning gas station while employees, travelers and other customers were present.
Police alerted units operating in the sector and began patrols intended to locate the motorcycle and the two men involved. The attackers had already escaped by the time officers secured the crime scene.
No verified public statement reviewed before publication identified the gunmen, announced an arrest or established a motive. Authorities also had not publicly attributed the killings to a named criminal organization.
The confirmed record establishes that two armed men arrived by motorcycle, one dismounted and fired repeatedly toward the pickup, two men were killed, and two other people suffered gunshot wounds. At least 13 ballistic items were recovered during the initial examination of the scene.
