Husband kills wife and baby son in family knife attack in Tây Ninh, Vietnam.
NEWS:
A man killed his wife and 2-month-old son and wounded his parents during a knife attack inside a family home in Tây Ninh, Vietnam, before police subdued him at the scene.
The attack happened around noon on May 3, 2026, at a house in Kỳ Châu hamlet, Vĩnh Công commune. Early police-based reports identified the suspect as Nguyễn Tấn Phước, also known as Phú. Later updates identified him as Nguyễn Tấn Phú. Available reports also differed on his age, listing him as 32 in early coverage and 37 in later updates.
The victims killed in the house were identified by initials as Đ.T.T, the suspect’s wife, and the couple’s 2-month-old son. The woman and child were found dead in a rear room of the home, according to the initial police account reported after the attack.
The video connected to the case shows authorities and residents around the home as the suspect is controlled and taken into custody. The footage confirms the police response and the suspect’s capture at the scene. It does not show every act that happened inside the room where the woman and baby were killed, and it does not establish the motive.
Neighbors reportedly heard screams and calls for help coming from the house. When people nearby moved toward the home, they saw the suspect holding a knife and attacking members of his family, according to the initial account from local police.
The suspect’s biological parents tried to intervene after discovering the attack. Both were wounded with a knife and suffered multiple injuries. They were taken for emergency care in serious condition. A later update said the two injured parents had stabilized enough to leave the hospital and return home to handle funeral matters.
Police from Vĩnh Công commune arrived after the report, sealed off the area, coordinated with provincial investigators and prosecutors, examined the scene, recovered the weapon and subdued the suspect.
Authorities initially said they were questioning the suspect and examining whether drug use or other factors were involved. Later reporting said investigators had requested a mental health evaluation to determine the suspect’s capacity at the time of the killings. No final psychiatric conclusion was available in the reviewed material.
A subsequent update changed the legal posture of the case. On May 12, hospital officials said the suspect had died during treatment at Long An General Hospital. The initial medical diagnosis reported in that update was severe multiple organ failure.
Police had previously detained him for investigation on suspicion of murder. After he was restrained, he showed abnormal health signs and was moved to the hospital for treatment under police supervision.
The available record does not show a final charging decision, trial or conviction. Because the suspect died before any public court outcome, the later legal handling of the case depends on the investigative record, including whether authorities identify any additional crime, accomplice or unresolved legal issue.
The confirmed core of the case is that the suspect’s wife and 2-month-old son were killed in the home, his parents were wounded while trying to stop him, police subdued him at the scene, and he later died in hospital during treatment.
