(Can Tho – Vietnam) Tong Van Hoang Tuan, 31, from Vinh Long province, stole a truck in a industrial zone and then fled, causing a fatal accident that killed two people and injured five others. Police arrested him after a high-speed chase.

On September 26, at 12pm, the Can Tho Police Department received a report that Tuấn had stolen a truck in the Tra Noc Industrial Zone, in Binh Thuy District. He then drove away on National Highway 91 for about 40km. When he arrived in Thot Not District, he turned around and drove back in the opposite direction.

Tuan drove at high speed, causing a series of accidents, including two motorbike accidents and one car accident, which injured two people seriously. He then drove to the center of Thot Not District and turned around again. The incident caused panic among the public.

When he arrived in Long Hung Ward, O Mon District, Tuan collided with four motorbikes, killing one person and injuring three others. He then drove towards Binh Thuy District, and near the intersection of National Highway 91 and the road to Tra Noc Industrial Zone, he collided with six vehicles (three trucks and three cars), causing him to stop.

Police were deployed to blockade the area and fired several shots to apprehend Tuan, who was trying to escape in the truck. He was arrested at 1:30pm. The total distance Tuan drove was about 70-80km.

Six injured people were taken to the hospital immediately, but one man died at 6pm.

According to initial investigations, Tuan had used methamphetamine on September 23 and 24.
