Man stabbed to death outside hospital in Inajá, Brazil.

NEWS:

A 34-year-old man was stabbed to death outside the Municipal Hospital of Inajá, in Pernambuco, Brazil, after arriving at the unit seeking emergency care for earlier knife wounds.

The victim was identified as Gregório da Silva Neto. The killing happened on Friday morning, May 1, 2026, in front of the hospital in Inajá, a municipality in the Sertão region of Pernambuco.

Video from the scene shows the final stage of the attack outside the hospital area. The footage records the victim near the entrance area as the attacker reaches him and stabs him repeatedly. The visible sequence confirms the assault outside the medical unit, but it does not, by itself, establish the full motive or everything that happened before the recording began.

Initial accounts said Gregório had already been wounded before reaching the hospital. He arrived at the unit on the back of a motorcycle, reportedly trying to get medical attention after being stabbed during an earlier confrontation.

As he attempted to enter the hospital, the suspect arrived at the location on another motorcycle. Gregório tried to flee when he saw the attacker approaching, but he fell near the entrance of the unit. The attacker then reached him and delivered more than ten knife blows, according to the case reports.

Gregório died at the scene before receiving medical care inside the hospital. His body remained at the hospital morgue before being sent to the Medical Legal Institute in Caruaru.

Early information identified the suspect as João Paulo Pereira de Menezes, 33. Later updates said a man identified by the initials J.P.P. de M. had a preventive arrest warrant carried out in connection with the homicide.

The arrest happened on Monday, May 11, 2026. According to information attributed to police, the suspect presented himself at the police station accompanied by a lawyer. At the station, he was informed of a court order issued by the district court in Arcoverde, which had ordered his preventive detention.

The homicide was later treated as a qualified homicide investigation. The arrest warrant was tied to the killing registered on May 1 near the Municipal Hospital of Inajá.

Later information attributed to the investigation said the case began with a discussion at a bar in Inajá. Gregório and another man reportedly became involved in a disagreement, and Gregório was struck with knife blows during that confrontation.

Even after being wounded, Gregório left the first location on the back of a motorcycle and went to the Municipal Hospital of Inajá for medical assistance. Investigators said the suspect then arrived at the hospital area on another motorcycle and attacked him again before he could receive care.

After legal procedures at the police station, the suspect remained at the disposal of the justice system and was expected to be transferred to the prison system under the preventive detention order.
