A helmeted gunman chased and repeatedly shot a father in front of his young daughter shortly after he collected her from school in Carabayllo, a district in northern Lima, Peru, on May 6, 2026.

The victim, identified as Eder Santos Olascuaga, survived the initial attack and was transported to the Hospital Sergio Bernales in critical condition. Early medical information stated that he had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

The shooting occurred at approximately 00:2:47 p.m. in the 600 block of Túpac Amaru Street, in the Torre Blanca sector, near Santo Domingo Avenue.

Security camera footage records the attacker walking through the area with his face concealed by a motorcycle helmet. He wore black pants, white shoes and a dark jacket with light green sections.

The video shows Santos walking along the street with his daughter after leaving the school area. The gunman approaches from behind and follows them for several seconds.

Santos notices the armed man, turns and begins running. The attacker draws a handgun and opens fire while pursuing him down the street.

The child runs behind her father as the shots continue. She falls during the chase, gets back up and continues toward him while the attacker fires repeatedly.

Santos reaches the area outside a neighborhood store before collapsing on the pavement. The gunman stops several feet away, fires additional shots and then leaves the camera’s immediate field of view.

The footage directly establishes that the attacker deliberately followed, chased and shot Santos multiple times while the child was present. It also shows the girl running toward her wounded father after he falls.

People in the area approach the child and remove her from the immediate scene. Reports stated that residents took her back toward the school for protection. She was not physically injured during the shooting.

The recording does not establish the attacker’s identity, who ordered the shooting or the motive behind it. It also does not prove any connection between the gunman and a specific criminal organization.

A second man, identified as 52-year-old Orlando Correa Acuña, was struck by gunfire near the store. He suffered injuries to his arm and abdomen.

Correa was described as a local storekeeper or resident who was near the business when the shooting began. His daughter said two bullets struck him during the attack.

Police officers and residents assisted the wounded men. Both were taken to the Hospital Sergio Bernales in Collique.

Santos was reported in critical condition after being admitted with a head wound. Correa was initially described as seriously injured, but a later report stated that he was out of immediate danger.

Police cordoned off the street after the shooting. Criminalistics specialists and representatives of the Public Ministry attended the scene to collect physical evidence and review surveillance recordings.

Investigators recovered at least nine spent cartridge cases. The number of cases found does not establish that every shot struck Santos or Correa.

Some reports stated that Santos was struck by eight or nine bullets, while others said he received more than five gunshot wounds. No publicly released medical report established a definitive number of wounds.

The attacker is shown leaving the immediate area on foot. Police information later cited by a television report stated that a second person was waiting nearby with a motorcycle and helped him escape.

That getaway sequence was not fully documented in the security footage reviewed with the case. The existence and role of a suspected accomplice therefore depend on the police account rather than on the visible section of the recording.

Police information described Santos by the alias “Pichón” and alleged that he had possible links to Los Sanguinarios de la Construcción, a criminal network associated with extortion and violence connected to construction projects in northern Lima.

Authorities also alleged that Santos may have worked as a logistical or financial operator connected to Adán Lucano, known as “El Jorobado,” who has been identified as a leader within the network.

Those allegations were presented as preliminary police information. No publicly accessible court ruling reviewed after the attack established Santos’ membership in the organization or proved that the shooting resulted from his alleged association with it.

Investigators examined whether the attempted killing was connected to disputes among criminal groups involved in extortion, construction contracts and territorial control in Lima Norte.

Reports mentioned organizations associated with figures known as “El Jorobado,” “El Monstruo” and “Loco Joe.” Police had not publicly established which group, if any, ordered or carried out the Carabayllo attack.

Santos’ wife, Siomara Mireya Flores, was shot and killed in Comas in September 2025. Their daughters were also injured during that earlier attack.

The previous killing was reportedly investigated in connection with violence among criminal organizations operating in northern Lima. Authorities had not publicly proven that the murder of Flores and the May 2026 attempt on Santos were ordered by the same people.

The initial international report described Santos as having been murdered. That information conflicts with reports from the scene, police information and hospital updates, all of which stated that he was alive when admitted and remained in critical condition on May 7.

No verified later report located through July 15, 2026, confirmed that Santos died from his injuries.

Later social media reports claimed that police had identified a suspected shooter. No accessible primary police statement, suspect name, arrest record or prosecutorial announcement was found to independently confirm that development.

The publicly confirmed record establishes an attempted killing captured by security cameras, two wounded men, an unharmed child, nine cartridge cases recovered from the street and an investigation involving the Police Criminalistics Division and the Public Ministry.

It does not establish a confirmed motive, a proven criminal affiliation for the attacker, an arrest or a final medical outcome for Santos after the initial critical-condition report.
