Man shot dead in cellphone ambush in Luz, Brazil.

A 29-year-old man was shot dead beside a car in Luz, Minas Gerais, Brazil, after a gunman approached him in the street and opened fire at close range during what police later described as a premeditated ambush.
The victim was identified in local reporting as Samuel Kennedy Ferreira Silva. The killing happened on the evening of Tuesday, April 14, at around 00:6:58 p.m., near the intersection of Professor Tíndaro Street and Vigário Parreiras Street, in the area known as Alto da Caixa D’Água.
Security footage recorded the attack. The video shows the victim near a Fiat Palio, standing outside the vehicle and using a cellphone. Another man then walks toward him while also holding a phone. The two appear to interact briefly in the street.
The footage shows the gunman drop a cellphone on the ground. When the victim bends down toward the device, the attacker pulls out a firearm and shoots him repeatedly at close range. The gunman then runs away from the scene.
Police information later attributed to the Military Police said the victim was struck by 16 shots. Earlier accounts said most of the gunfire hit the head area. He died at the scene before medical help could arrive.
The same police information said the suspect was identified as a 17-year-old. His name was not released because he is a minor. He had not been located by the last updates found during the reporting review.
Military Police officers were called to the scene and found the victim already dead beside the vehicle. Civil Police forensic teams also attended the area and processed the scene before the body was released to a funeral service.
Police information reported after the initial account said investigators were looking at a possible connection to drug trafficking. According to those police details, 10 small packets of cocaine were found with the victim and may have been intended for delivery to the suspect. That possible motive remains an attribution to police information, not a confirmed judicial finding.
The same police information said both the victim and the suspected shooter had previous police records related to drug trafficking. Later reporting also stated that the victim had prior records involving other offenses, including homicide, robbery, theft, threats, disobedience and domestic violence. Those records do not establish motive by themselves.
The killing was initially reported as the first homicide in Luz after nearly seven months without a violent lethal crime of that kind in the city. The previous homicide cited in local accounts occurred on September 20, 2025, when a 48-year-old man was killed inside a workshop.
No official public statement, police report or court record directly published by authorities was found during the review. The confirmed visual evidence is limited to what the security video shows: the victim standing near the car, the suspect approaching, the dropped cellphone, the victim bending toward it, the firearm being drawn, multiple close-range shots and the shooter fleeing.
