SOUTH PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Police Department has launched an investigation after officers made a disturbing discovery in a South Philadelphia rowhome.

Law enforcement sources first told FOX 29’s Steve Keeley that a dead body was discovered in the freezer of a rowhome on the 1200 block of Snyder Avenue.

Sources also said a significant amount of blood was discovered on the scene.

According to police, the body, later identified as a man, was discovered in a freezer in the basement around 6:28 a.m. Friday. Medics pronounced the man dead at 6:50 a.m., officials say.

FOX 29 was on Snyder Avenue when homicide detectives and law enforcement personnel sectioned off the area and began investigating.

Police did not release additional information Friday morning, but sources told Keeley the man was discovered face down with a bag over his head.
