Two men gunned down in broad daylight in Trujillo, Peru.
NEWS:
Two men were shot dead in broad daylight on Thursday, April 9, 2026, in Trujillo, Peru, after gunmen pulled up beside a parked car and opened fire in the San Isidro neighborhood.
The fatal shooting happened at about 3 p.m. on the fifth block of Bronce Street, where the victims were inside a parked vehicle. Security footage from the area shows a white vehicle stopping next to them moments before the attack began.
The video shows the gunmen firing at the victims while they were still near or inside the car. Both men tried to escape after the first shots. One collapsed near the passenger side of the vehicle. The other managed to run a short distance before he was struck and went down in the street.
After the initial burst of gunfire, the attackers got back into their vehicle and began to leave. Seconds later, the vehicle returned. One of the gunmen approached one of the victims and shot him again at close range before the attackers fled the scene.
The footage directly captures the armed attack, the victims’ attempt to run and the return of the assailants after the first round of shots. It does not establish a motive, identify the gunmen or show what happened before the white vehicle arrived.
Witnesses said the victims lived in the area and were waiting for relatives when they were attacked. Authorities have not publicly confirmed, in the available official record, a motive for the double homicide or the identity of the shooters.
Police officers from the emergency unit arrived at the scene after the shooting. Representatives of the Public Prosecutor’s Office also responded and ordered the removal of the bodies to the Trujillo morgue.
The killing occurred in a region already under heavy security pressure. On March 26, 2026, the Peruvian government declared a 60-day state of emergency in the provinces of Trujillo and Virú, in La Libertad, citing criminality and other forms of violence. Under that measure, the National Police remained in charge of internal order with support from the Armed Forces.
The emergency order also allowed authorities to restrict certain constitutional rights during the period, including freedom of movement, freedom of assembly, home inviolability and personal liberty and security, within the legal framework of the measure.
The San Isidro double homicide added to the violent crime figures reported in La Libertad this year. A regional security official later cited Interior Ministry observatory figures showing that La Libertad had reached 57 killings in 2026 after the two men were shot in Trujillo.
Authorities have also announced broader security reinforcements for the region. On April 25, 2026, Peru’s Interior Ministry presented 500 new National Police officers for La Libertad, with deployment planned for priority areas with higher crime incidence.
Officials also reported that Trujillo’s security operations include hundreds of surveillance cameras and a police drone squad used for prevention, intelligence and investigations.
No verified public statement found in open official sources confirmed arrests specifically tied to the Bronce Street double homicide. Details such as the victims’ full identities, the shooters’ names and the motive for the attack should be treated as unresolved unless later confirmed by police, prosecutors or court records.
