Toddler falls from first-floor balcony in Bengaluru, India.

NEWS:

An 18-month-old girl was hospitalized after falling from a residential building in the Nayandahalli area of Bengaluru, India, on April 6, in an accident captured on CCTV.

The child was playing at home before she moved into a passage area outside the main door. The video shows the toddler near the balcony or grill area shortly before the fall. She then drops to the road below. A passerby nearby reacts immediately, and people at the scene move toward the child after impact.

The footage directly shows the fall and the immediate response from people nearby. It does not show any assault, deliberate push, or criminal act. No report reviewed for this article described the incident as intentional.

Early social media posts described the fall as being from the third floor. Later accounts attributed to the family and police described it as a first-floor fall. One later report described it as a second-floor fall. Because of that discrepancy, the safest confirmed description is that the child fell from a residential building in Nayandahalli, with the most repeated later version placing the fall at the first floor.

Reports said the child had climbed onto a chair placed near a metal grill before losing her balance. Her mother was reportedly inside the home at the time, briefly attending to milk on the stove. After the child fell, neighbors and people nearby helped alert the family and move the girl for emergency treatment.

The toddler suffered a head injury and was taken to a private hospital in Basavanagudi. Initial reports said she was being treated in the ICU and was in critical condition. Later reports said doctors described her as out of danger and responding to treatment.

The child’s father told police that the family did not blame anyone for the accident. Police from Chandra Layout station said no complaint had been filed.

Later reporting identified the girl as Sahana and said she required stitches for the head injury. Because she is a minor, no additional personal details are included here beyond what is necessary to identify the public incident.

The mother reportedly collapsed after seeing her injured child and was helped by people nearby. Later reports said she had recovered and was stable.
