At 6:20 AM on March 10, 2024, the Surin Emergency Radio Center received reports from residents that 2 cyclists were hit by a sedan and crashed into an electricity pole. The incident occurred in front of Rajamangala University of Technology Isan, Surin Campus, on the Surin-Prasat Road in Mueang District, Surin Province. There were injuries and fatalities reported. Pol Lt Col Surat Sriwong, an investigator from Mueang Surin Police Station, along with the on-duty doctor from Surin Hospital, Surin rescue workers, rescue workers skilled in using extrication equipment, and the Mangkon Rescue Team were dispatched to inspect the scene.

At the site, two heavily damaged mountain bikes were found with bent rear wheels and scattered parts. Nearby, one fatality was discovered, later identified as Mr. Phan Chaiyingm, 61, a resident of Mueang District, Surin. His body had a cracked open skull, and his brain matter was scattered. Another severely injured victim was found, Mrs. Siriporn Deesamo, 59. Rescuers performed CPR, and she was rushed to Surin Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Approximately 2 meters away, a black Toyota Yaris sedan with the license plate ‘Kor Thor 667 Surin’ was found crashed into an electricity pole, with its front end heavily damaged. Inside the car, the trapped driver was identified as Mr. Panu Khongnanuan, 26, from Prasat District, Surin Province. He had sustained chest and leg injuries and was stuck in the wreckage. Rescue workers used extrication equipment to free him successfully after about 30 minutes, and he was then rushed to Surin Hospital.

The passenger in the sedan, Mr. Chakraphan Muanlue, 24, also from Prasat District, Surin Province, sustained facial injuries with bleeding. According to his statement, he and the driver, Mr. Panu (his boyfriend), had driven from an entertainment venue in Mueang District, Surin, before the incident. He could not recall what happened, only that their car had crashed into the electricity pole.
