Two women were injured after a tractor drove into and ran over them during a dispute over agricultural land in Pimpalgaon Baswant, in Maharashtra's Nashik district, India.
The women were identified as Rashmi Ajay Gosavi and Suvarna Subhash Gosavi.
Video of the incident records the tractor moving toward the women, striking them and continuing forward as they are knocked down. The physical contact between the tractor and the women is directly visible in the footage.
The confrontation was connected to a long-running land dispute within the Gosavi family. The farmland was the subject of a pending court case and was reported to be under a stay order restricting activity on the property.
According to the complaint from Ajay Gosavi's side, relatives learned that a tractor was being used to plow the disputed land and went to the property to stop the work. Ajay Gosavi was accompanied by relatives, including Rashmi and Suvarna.
The complaint said members of the opposing side were already at the property. An argument followed over whether the tractor should continue working on the land.
During the confrontation, the tractor moved toward the women and hit them. Rashmi and Suvarna were injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Initial information about their medical condition differed. One account said one of the women was seriously injured. A later account said both women were receiving treatment and described their condition as stable.
The first complaint resulted in a criminal case against eight people, including tractor driver Ajay Unhale. Rishikesh Gosavi and Abhishek Gosavi were also among people identified in connection with that side of the dispute.
The allegations went beyond the physical contact visible in the video. Ajay Gosavi's side accused members of the opposing group of directing the tractor driver to keep moving and threatening to drive the vehicle into them. Those claims concern intent and events surrounding the recorded collision and are allegations contained in the dispute, not facts established solely by the video.
The opposing side also filed a complaint.
Renu Gosavi alleged that members of the other group entered land in her side's possession, verbally abused and assaulted the tractor driver and removed the tractor's key. Her complaint said the woman was injured during the disturbance that followed.
Police registered a separate case against nine people based on that complaint.
The two cases meant 17 people were named across the competing complaints. The existence of the counter-case is important because the two sides gave different accounts of what led to the confrontation and who was responsible for the violence surrounding it.
The video resolves only part of that dispute. It shows the tractor physically hitting the women. It does not by itself establish what orders were given to the driver, what was said before the recording, who legally controlled the farmland or whether the driver's movement was intended to kill the women.
The land dispute itself was already before a court. Members of Ajay Gosavi's side said agricultural work was being carried out despite a court stay and accused the other group of entering the disputed property to plow it.
The opposing complaint presented a different version, alleging that the other group forcibly entered the property and assaulted the driver.
Public accounts also differed over which police station initially handled the case. An early account referred to Igatpuri Police Station, while more detailed later information said the two complaints were registered at Pimpalgaon Baswant Police Station.
