Hotel worker electrocuted to death while chasing monkey at resort in India.

NEWS:

A hotel worker died after being electrocuted while trying to chase a monkey away from a resort in Madhya Pradesh, India, according to local reports and video of the incident.

The worker was identified in local reporting as Pradeep Raikwar, also known as Ranu Raikwar. He was reportedly employed as a room boy at Khajuraho Heritage Hotel or resort in the Bamitha area of Chhatarpur district. Several reports said he had joined the job only five days before the fatal accident.

The video shows the worker holding a long iron pipe while moving through the hotel premises as a monkey is nearby. He appears to use the pipe to drive the animal away. As he raises or moves the metal pipe upward, it makes contact with an overhead high-voltage power line.

A large flash erupts immediately after contact. The worker collapses to the ground within seconds. People inside nearby rooms or areas of the property appear to react after the flash and sound from the electrical discharge.

Local reports said he died at the scene. Reports citing police said officers later arrived, completed preliminary procedures and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Police also registered a death inquiry and began examining the circumstances of the accident.

The incident was reported to have taken place on April 14 at the Khajuraho Heritage property in Chhatarpur district. One local report described the worker as 27 years old and said the accident happened at about 00:5:30 p.m., when monkeys entered the resort premises. Those details were attributed to local reporting and were not independently confirmed by an official public statement.

There is a discrepancy in the reported voltage of the power line. One local report described it as an 11 kV high-voltage line. Other reports and social media captions connected to the footage described it as a 33 kV line. Because of that discrepancy, the line is described here only as a high-voltage power line.

Local reporting said the worker picked up the iron pipe to scare away the monkeys and that the pipe struck the overhead electrical line. The visible footage supports the central sequence of the incident: the worker was holding the metal pipe, the pipe reached the overhead line, a sudden electrical flash occurred, and the worker fell immediately.

Reports citing police said investigators were looking into the exact sequence of events and whether the placement of the power line near the resort created a safety hazard. Some reports also said authorities were expected to examine the height of the line and whether safety standards had been followed.

Family members reportedly accused the resort management and the electricity department of negligence. Those allegations have not been confirmed through a public official document reviewed for this article. They are included only as allegations reported by local media.

The resort owner, identified in later reports as Jay Tiwari, reportedly said a high-voltage railway-related line passed over the property and claimed that requests had been made in the past to have it moved. That claim was also reported by media outlets and was not confirmed here through a government or railway statement.

The worker was also reported to have been the only earning member of his family. Some later reports said he left behind two young children. Those details were attributed to subsequent reporting and were not confirmed by a publicly available official record.

The case centers on the direct risk created by using a metal object near overhead electrical infrastructure. In the video, the fatal contact happens only after the iron pipe reaches the power line. The footage does not show any prior warning, safety intervention or visible barrier between the worker’s position and the overhead line.

Police were reported to be examining whether the death was the result of a workplace safety failure, unsafe electrical clearance, hotel management negligence, or a combination of circumstances. No public record reviewed for this article confirmed that any person or agency had been formally charged in connection with the incident.
