Man Held in Preventive Detention for Sister’s Grisly Murder in Mao

VALVERDE, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – A local court in Valverde has ordered one year of preventive imprisonment for 33-year-old Juan José Guerrero Quezada, who stands accused of murdering and dismembering his 35-year-old sister, Mildred Estefanía Guerrero Quezada.

According to the investigation led by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the incident took place on August 24 at the victim’s residence in the Los Restauradores sector of Mao. The crime occurred following a heated argument between the siblings.

Mildred Estefanía’s body was discovered with multiple stab wounds to the chest, neck, and abdomen. The victim also showed signs of extreme violence, including amputations of both lower limbs and the mutilation of one finger on her right hand.

Prosecutors revealed that after committing the murder, Guerrero Quezata attempted to dispose of the body by placing some of the remains into buckets and others into a pot inside the stove oven—presumably with the intent to burn them.

Evidence also indicates that the accused left the scene with his sister’s personal documents, sold her cell phone for one thousand pesos, and gave away parakeets belonging to the victim to a local veterinary clinic.

Authorities further reported that Guerrero Quezada returned to the house several times after the crime. During his final visit, he pretended to discover the body and let out a scream that drew the attention of neighbors, who then alerted the police after encountering the horrific scene.

The suspect will remain in custody at a provincial correctional facility as the Public Prosecutor’s Office moves forward with formal charges for aggravated homicide and acts of barbarism.
