A 48-year-old woman was run over and killed by a crude palm oil truck after the motorcycle taxi she was riding collided with the truck near Terminal Alam Barajo in Jambi, Indonesia, on May 20, 2026.

Tri Renni Aprianti died at the scene of the crash on Jalan Lingkar Barat III in the Kenali Besar area of Jambi City. The collision occurred at about 00:8:20 a.m. near the entrance to the Alam Barajo bus terminal.

Aprianti was riding as a passenger on a KYMCO Cevira motorcycle with registration BH 2957 AQ. The motorcycle was driven by 63-year-old motorcycle taxi operator Abu Hanifah.

The other vehicle was a Hino truck with registration BG 8501 JM. Police identified the truck driver as Oyon Saputra, 46, from Batang Hari Regency. The truck was described as carrying crude palm oil, commonly known as CPO.

Video of the crash shows the motorcycle and truck coming into contact on the roadway. The motorcycle falls, and Aprianti ends up beneath the truck and is run over. The footage establishes the collision, the fall and the fatal run-over itself.

Police said the motorcycle and truck had been traveling in the same direction, from Simpang Rimbo toward Kampung Rajo. Both were using the left lane, with the motorcycle positioned ahead of the truck.

According to Jambi traffic police chief AKP Rio Siregar, the truck was attempting to overtake the motorcycle as the vehicles reached the area near the terminal entrance. The vehicles made contact during the passing maneuver, causing the motorcycle to go down.

Hanifah was injured in the crash. Later information described his injuries as minor and said he received medical treatment.

Aprianti suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

A local witness said the motorcycle had recently left a market near Terminal Alam Barajo and that Aprianti appeared to be carrying vegetables. Her family said she had been returning from shopping and had taken a motorcycle taxi after traveling from the market area.

Police examined the crash scene after the collision. Officers reported that the road was straight and paved, with visible lane markings, and that weather conditions were clear at the time of the accident.

Investigators also recorded information about the drivers' licenses. Police said Hanifah did not have a valid SIM C motorcycle license, while Saputra held a SIM B II Umum license, the category used for certain commercial and heavy vehicles.

The absence of a motorcycle license was documented as part of the police examination, but authorities did not publicly state that it caused the collision. The police account focused on the contact that occurred while the truck was attempting to overtake the motorcycle.

Police also said Saputra left the immediate crash scene and ran toward the terminal after the collision.

Traffic officers, personnel from Indonesia's Directorate General of Land Transportation and people in the area pursued him. He was caught and taken into custody for questioning.

The truck and motorcycle were also secured by the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Jambi Metropolitan Police as part of the investigation.

The driver's detention for questioning should not be confused with a later criminal conviction. No reliable subsequent public update located in connection with the case announced that Saputra had been formally convicted or sentenced over the crash.

Aprianti's husband, Rustam, learned about the collision from a neighbor at around 9 a.m. He went to the scene and found that his wife's body had already been covered by residents.

Rustam said Aprianti had traveled from the Simpang Pulai market area and later boarded the motorcycle taxi near Simpang Rimbo shortly before the crash.

The accident generated an immediate compensation process through Indonesia's state traffic accident insurance system.

Jasa Raharja's Jambi regional office coordinated with the Jambi police traffic accident unit, medical personnel and Aprianti's family after receiving notice of the fatal crash.

The compensation process for Aprianti's heirs was completed on the afternoon of May 20, less than a day after the collision. The symbolic presentation was attended by Jambi Mayor Maulana and representatives connected to the hospital and local authorities.

The compensation was processed under Indonesia's statutory traffic accident insurance framework for victims of road crashes involving motor vehicles.

Aprianti was the only person killed in the collision. Hanifah survived.

The later public information reviewed continued to describe the crash as occurring when the Hino truck attempted to pass the motorcycle near the entrance to Terminal Alam Barajo. Police had both vehicles and the truck driver in their custody for further examination immediately after the accident.
