Man is shot dead after leaving work in Macapá, Brazil.
NEWS:
A 23-year-old man was shot dead in broad daylight after leaving work in Macapá, Brazil, in a street killing that local police later described, according to reports, as a likely targeted execution. The shooting happened on April 1 on Avenida Aurora Boreal, in the Jardim Marco Zero neighborhood, in the southern part of the city.
The video tied to the case directly shows the killing unfold in public. The footage records the victim being stopped in the street and then shot multiple times. That part is not being treated here as a possibility or a disputed version, because the video itself captures the attack. What the footage does not establish on its own is the full background of the victim, the motive behind the shooting, or the identity of the gunmen.
Local reporting identified the victim as Andreson de Souza, known as Lelê. He was 23 years old. Reports said he had just left work and was returning alongside his brother-in-law when he was intercepted. Those details come from the reporting reviewed in this apuração, not from the video alone.
According to witness accounts cited in later coverage, two men on a black motorcycle approached the pair. The passenger reportedly acted as if it were a robbery to force them to stop. But, according to police statements reproduced in the same reports, no belongings were taken. The gunfire was directed only at Andreson. His brother-in-law was not injured.
That point matters because it is central to the police line of inquiry. According to statements attributed to delegate Carlos Mazurek, from the homicide unit, investigators were working primarily with the hypothesis of a planned execution or score-settling killing, not a robbery gone wrong. The reasoning described in those reports was straightforward: the attackers allegedly staged the approach like a holdup, but did not steal anything and fired only at the victim.
The later reporting added forensic detail. Police said surveillance images collected from the area suggested the suspects had been waiting for Andreson before carrying out the attack. At the scene, the forensic team reportedly found at least nine 9 mm shell casings. Those details did not come from a public official bulletin that I could independently open in a government portal, so they should be understood as police-attributed information carried by local news coverage.
The victim’s recent personal background also appeared in the second wave of reporting. According to those reports, Andreson had prior involvement with the prison system on a drug trafficking case and had recently left the Instituto de Administração Penitenciária do Amapá after progressing to an open regime. Family members told reporters he had been trying to rebuild his life, had moved from Santana to Macapá to live with his brother-in-law, and was working as a construction laborer.
That background is relevant because it may help explain why investigators looked at the possibility of a targeted killing and did not rule out a criminal dispute. But it still does not prove motive by itself. The same police-attributed reports said officers had not ruled out a possible faction connection, yet did not present that as a closed conclusion. In other words, there was an investigative direction, but not a publicly proven explanation.
The visual evidence remains narrower and stronger than the motive claims. The video confirms that Andreson was shot in public and that the killing was direct, fast and concentrated on him. It does not confirm whether the shooters knew him personally, whether they were acting on orders, or whether the crime was linked to a past dispute. Those are points that depend on investigation and reporting, not on the footage itself.
There is also a limit to how far the public record goes at this stage. In the later reports reviewed for this article, no suspect had been arrested. I also did not locate a later public report, official statement or court document showing a formal indictment, an arrest or a solved-case announcement tied to this homicide. That means the strongest verified account remains this: a young man leaving work was ambushed and shot dead on a Macapá street, the killing was captured on video, police treated it as a likely execution, and the case was still unsolved in the latest public reporting located during this apuração.
