GARUT, Indonesia. A white car crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a motorcycle carrying two people on Jalan Sudirman in Garut, West Java, on May 5, 2026. CCTV footage recorded the head-on collision, which threw the motorcycle rider and passenger from the bike.
The crash occurred at about 9 a.m. local time near Gerbang Cempaka, on a section of Jalan Sudirman close to the boundary between the Karangpawitan and Garut Kota districts. The vehicles were identified as a white Daihatsu Sigra and a Honda CBR motorcycle.
The recording shows the Sigra approaching from the direction of Bunderan Suci. As the vehicles close the distance between them, the car moves to the right and enters the path of the oncoming motorcycle. The Honda CBR is traveling in the opposite direction with a rider and passenger aboard.
The front of the motorcycle strikes the front area of the car. The impact violently separates both occupants from the motorcycle and sends them through the air before they hit the pavement. The motorcycle is thrown away from the point of impact as the car continues toward the right side of the road.
People near the scene immediately move into the roadway toward the injured pair. One of the motorcycle occupants remains down in the road as others approach. The footage establishes the collision, the car’s movement across the roadway and the force that threw both people from the bike. It does not establish why the driver crossed into the opposing lane.
A witness at the scene said traffic had been moving normally before the crash. The witness described the motorcycle as traveling on the left side of its lane and said the car moved too far to the right, leaving the two vehicles too close to avoid impact. That account is consistent with the central movement visible in the CCTV recording.
Police later confirmed that the motorcycle carried two people. The rider suffered serious injuries, while the female passenger sustained minor injuries. Both were taken for medical treatment, with early reporting identifying Nurhayati General Hospital as the receiving facility. Police said there were no fatalities.
The driver of the Daihatsu Sigra was taken in by traffic investigators for questioning. The available police account did not describe the driver as arrested, identify a criminal charge or announce a final determination of fault. The Traffic Police Law Enforcement Unit in Garut assumed responsibility for the case and the examination of the driver.
An early witness account claimed that the car driver also appeared badly hurt and may have suffered injuries to an arm and a leg. The later police account identified the motorcycle rider and passenger as the two injured victims and did not confirm the claimed fractures. The reported injuries to the car driver therefore remain unverified and are not treated as established fact.
The video does not show what happened inside the car before it crossed the roadway. It cannot confirm distraction, fatigue, a medical emergency, excessive speed or a mechanical problem. No such explanation can be established from the visible evidence alone.
The police information released after the initial report clarified the number and condition of the injured people but did not provide their ages, a technical reconstruction, vehicle speeds, test results or a final cause. It also did not announce that the motorcycle rider or passenger had died after hospitalization.
The crash was recorded in daylight on an active urban road. The most direct confirmed sequence is limited to what the camera captured: the white car moved into the path of the oncoming Honda CBR, the vehicles collided head-on, and the rider and passenger were thrown from the motorcycle. The rider was later listed in serious condition, the passenger had minor injuries, and the car driver was questioned by Garut traffic police.
