Driver shot dead after road dispute in San Antonio La Paz, Guatemala.

NEWS:

A driver was shot dead after a road dispute on a narrow street in Santo Domingo Los Ocotes, San Antonio La Paz, El Progreso, Guatemala.

The victim was identified as Lubin Cruz, 35. The shooting happened on Friday, April 24, 2026, after a dispute involving the driver of a Toyota pickup-style vehicle and the occupants of a white Kia truck.

Surveillance video shows the Toyota and the white truck facing each other on a narrow road where neither vehicle appears to be moving forward. The footage shows Cruz getting out of the Toyota with a handgun in his right hand and walking toward the white truck.

The video shows Cruz arguing with the truck driver at the front of the white vehicle. Cruz then uses the butt of the handgun to hit the truck driver. The footage shows the strike, the armed confrontation and Cruz turning back toward the Toyota after the exchange.

As Cruz walks away from the truck, gunfire comes from inside the white vehicle. Cruz is struck from behind and falls to the ground beside the road. The video confirms the armed confrontation, the blow with the gun and the shooting that immediately follows.

The footage does not identify the person who fired from inside the truck. It also does not establish whether the shooter was the driver or another occupant. Later reporting said investigators were trying to determine the identity of the driver and the person believed to have fired from the truck.

After the shooting, the white truck reverses and leaves the scene. Two women who were inside the Toyota get out after Cruz falls. The video shows them reacting to the shooting and moving toward him as the truck backs away.

Local emergency responders were called after the attack. Cruz was transported toward the Hospital General San Juan de Dios in critical condition. Available reporting said he later died after arriving at the hospital.

Emergency personnel identified Cruz as a resident of Santo Domingo Los Ocotes. Reports attributed to rescuers said he had multiple gunshot wounds, including four wounds in the right side of the back, one wound in the skull area and an exit wound in the chest.

The shooting was initially described as a dispute over the right of way on a narrow street. That description is consistent with the video, which shows both vehicles stopped opposite each other in a constrained section of road before Cruz exits the Toyota.

The recording does not show what happened before the Toyota and truck stopped in that position. It also does not establish whether either vehicle had the legal right of way before the confrontation began.

Later reporting identified Cruz more fully as Lubin Cruz Serrano and said he was a merchant connected to a transportation business. That background was reported after the shooting but was not tied to a public official investigative finding on the motive.

The case remained under investigation after the video circulated. Later reporting said police investigators were reviewing surveillance frames to identify the white truck, obtain its plate information and determine who was inside it.

No verified public update was found confirming arrests, charges, a recovered weapon, a completed forensic report or a court hearing. No public statement was located identifying the shooter by name.

The confirmed public record supports only the central sequence: a road dispute occurred in Santo Domingo Los Ocotes, Cruz approached the white truck while armed, he struck the truck driver with the gun, he was shot from inside the truck while walking back toward the Toyota, the truck fled, and Cruz died after the attack.
