A mother and daughter were killed in a fatal motorcycle crash with a container truck on Ring Road II in Samarinda, Indonesia, after their bike ended up under the front of the vehicle during traffic on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened at about 00:12:30 p.m. local time on April 14, 2026, on Jalan Nusyirwan Ismail, also known as Ring Road II, in the Lok Bahu area of Sungai Kunjang. The motorcycle involved was reported as plate number KT 3823 CAB. The container truck was reported as plate number KT 9095 BU.

The victims were identified as 51-year-old Siti Nuripah and her daughter, Vika Purnama Wulandari. Local reports said Siti was riding the motorcycle with her daughter as a passenger when the crash occurred. Both women died at the scene.

Video from the crash captures the critical moment of the incident. The motorcycle and the container truck are seen moving in the same traffic flow before the bike ends up directly in front of the truck and is pulled under it. The footage shows the motorcycle being struck and dragged beneath the front section of the heavy vehicle. Her daughter, Vika Purnama Wulandari, was reported to have worked as a physiotherapist at PKBI Samarinda. Both were buried on the evening of April 14 at TPU Lempake.

The crash also drew renewed attention to heavy vehicle traffic on Ring Road II. Municipal transportation officials said the route is designated for freight traffic, including container trucks, and that heavy vehicles are allowed to use the road without time restrictions because the route is part of Samarinda’s logistics movement.

Transportation officials urged road users to keep a safe distance from large vehicles and follow traffic signs, especially on routes where motorcycles share space with container trucks and other heavy vehicles.

Police later linked the case to broader safety concerns involving large vehicles in Samarinda. Officials said crashes involving heavy vehicles carry a higher risk of death or severe injury for motorcyclists and other smaller road users.
