Dashcam captures head-on truck crash during foggy passing attempt in Şavşat, Turkey.
NEWS:
A dashcam recorded a violent head-on crash on a fog-covered road in Şavşat, Turkey, after a light commercial vehicle moved into the opposite lane while trying to pass a truck and collided with an oncoming heavy truck.
The crash happened on Monday, April 20, 2026, on the Ardahan-Şavşat road in the Sahara Pass area. Available reports placed the collision on the route connecting Ardahan and Şavşat, with one agency version specifying the 88th kilometer of the Artvin-Ardahan road.
The video shows a road heavily reduced by fog. A large truck is moving ahead in the same direction as the camera vehicle. A light commercial vehicle appears in the opposite lane while attempting to overtake, then meets an oncoming heavy truck almost immediately. The front of the light commercial vehicle strikes the truck head-on.
The footage directly shows the passing attempt, the poor visibility and the impact. It does not show what the driver could see from inside the vehicle before crossing into the opposing lane. It also does not establish the exact speed of either vehicle.
The light commercial vehicle was identified in local reports by the plate 08 AH 854. Reports said it was traveling toward Ardahan when it tried to pass a truck in front of it. The oncoming heavy truck was identified in later agency reports by the plate 34 PBP 369.
Two people in the light commercial vehicle were injured. Later agency reports identified them as the driver, Kenan A., 70, and a passenger, Yusuf A., 68. The heavy truck driver was identified in those reports as Orhan Y., 37. No report located in the public record described fatal injuries from the crash.
Emergency crews were sent to the scene after the collision. Reports said AFAD, gendarmerie and medical teams responded. The two injured people were trapped in the wrecked light commercial vehicle and were removed by rescue crews before being treated at the scene.
The injured were then taken by ambulance to Ardahan State Hospital. One local account reported that their injuries were not life-threatening, but no hospital bulletin or official medical update was found in publicly available records.
The crash temporarily closed the Ardahan-Şavşat road in both directions. Later reports said traffic resumed after the damaged vehicles were removed and the route was cleared.
Initial reports and follow-up accounts agreed that fog was a major condition at the time of the crash and that the collision occurred during an overtaking maneuver. The available footage supports that account by showing limited visibility and the light commercial vehicle in the opposing lane seconds before impact.
There was a minor location variation in the available reporting. Some reports referred to the road's Sahara area or Sahara Pass, while the initial text also rendered the location as Sahana in one line. The more detailed later accounts placed the crash at the 88th kilometer in the Sahara Pass area.
No public authority statement, court filing or official investigation result was found stating whether any driver was cited, detained or formally charged. No verified later update was found describing a final reconstruction, a toxicology result, a mechanical defect or a completed legal finding.
