Man stabs ex-girlfriend to death after truck confrontation in Aguaí, Brazil.

NEWS:

A 29-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend in Aguaí, São Paulo, Brazil, after she refused to get into his truck, according to police accounts cited in the investigation.

The victim was identified as Joice Ariana da Cruz Oliveira. The suspect was identified as Rafael Pereira dos Santos, 38. The attack happened early Sunday, April 5, 2026, near Praça dos Aposentados, in the Vila Seca area of Aguaí.

The video published with this article shows the attack in the street. The footage shows a man pursuing the woman, grabbing her by the hair, forcing her to the ground and stabbing her repeatedly. The video also shows another woman trying to intervene before the attacker leaves the scene. The footage confirms the assault itself, but it does not independently prove the full motive, the prior relationship history or the suspect’s later statements.

Police and local reports said Joice had been with a friend shortly before the killing. According to the friend’s statement to police, Joice had said she was going to meet her ex-boyfriend at a nearby square. Although the relationship had ended, the two were still in occasional contact, according to the same account.

The suspect reportedly arrived in a truck and tried to make Joice enter the vehicle. When she refused, he chased her. The attack happened near a roundabout close to the square.

Reports citing the investigation said Joice was struck about 30 times with a knife. Residents heard calls for help. A municipal guard who lived nearby tried to assist, but Joice died at the scene.

The friend who was with Joice tried to stop the attacker during the assault. After the stabbing, the suspect fled and reportedly took the knife with him.

Police arrested Rafael hours later in a rural area between Aguaí and São João da Boa Vista. The case was registered as femicide, the Brazilian legal classification used in killings of women involving domestic violence, gender-based circumstances or contempt for the victim’s condition as a woman.

Joice’s body was taken for forensic examination. She was buried on Monday, April 6, at the Municipal Cemetery of Aguaí.

A later development added a separate line of investigation involving the same suspect. Police said Rafael was being investigated for possible involvement in the disappearance of another woman, identified as Aline Neli Souza, 28.

Aline was last seen on October 15, 2024, at Rafael’s rural property, according to the later police-linked account. She and Rafael were described as having been married or in a stable relationship. Relatives told investigators that she had previously suffered violence and threats.

The delegate responsible for the case said the disappearance inquiry remained active and that investigators were collecting new and old witness statements. Police also said phones would be analyzed as part of the search for evidence related to Aline’s disappearance.

Joice was reported to have been a neighbor of Rafael and Aline at the time Aline disappeared. That detail is part of the later investigative account and does not establish Rafael’s responsibility in the disappearance. As of the latest available information, the disappearance case had not produced a public final conclusion.

The confirmed case against Rafael at the time of the reports was the killing of Joice in Aguaí, captured on security camera and followed by his arrest in the rural area outside the city.
