Man with mental illness attacks passerby in Krasnoyarsk
In Krasnoyarsk, Russia, a man with a history of mental illness stabbed a passerby in the neck after mistaking him for a colleague he had a strong aversion to.
The attacker, diagnosed with schizophrenia, was sitting in a public playground when he suddenly attacked a stranger, trying to stab him in the throat. The victim, in a state of shock, fought back and managed to escape, taking shelter in a nearby shopping center. He later received medical attention and was hospitalized.
The suspect, identified as Alexey, 34, was detained by the police and displayed disoriented behavior during questioning. According to authorities, he claimed that the attack was a form of “self-defense” against the person he believed to be his colleague. During his testimony, he uttered aggressive phrases, such as: “I think people like that should be killed.”
Police are investigating the case, and the suspect has been referred for psychiatric evaluation. Authorities are expected to determine whether he will be held criminally responsible or subjected to compulsory treatment.
