A young woman in Rio de Janeiro reported her mother and brother to police after a video recorded inside a home showed a pit bull attacking her during a family dispute in Campo Grande, in the city’s West Zone.

The attack happened during a confrontation involving relatives, a dog, and a dispute that the victim said began after a man went to the residence over an unpaid debt related to a cellphone.

The video shows the dog on the young woman as she tries to protect herself. The mother said she began filming only after her daughter was already on the ground. She also claimed that the marks on the young woman’s body were not from dog bites, but from an earlier beating she had given her. That statement is part of the disputed version now being weighed by investigators.

The video, however, directly shows the dog over the victim and biting her while she is on the ground. It also records a male relative encouraging the dog during the assault. The footage does not establish every event that occurred before the recording began, and it does not prove the motive for the family dispute. It does show the violent attack itself and the verbal encouragement captured during it.

A later development focused on the dog. Authorities and a city council member involved in animal protection said the pit bull was removed from the home and taken to Fazenda Modelo, a municipal facility in Guaratiba. The animal was expected to receive veterinary evaluation and remain under care while officials assessed its condition and next steps.

Reports about the animal’s removal said complaints reached animal protection officials through social media. A city council member said neighbors and the mother alleged that Lemos had entered the home and hit the dog, leaving swelling on its face. He also said that no allegation against the victim would justify inciting the dog to bite her.
