Elderly woman beaten to death during home robbery in Pekanbaru, Indonesia.
NEWS:
A 60-year-old woman was beaten to death inside her home in Pekanbaru, Riau, Indonesia, during a robbery captured by CCTV, with footage showing multiple people entering the house, one man striking her with what authorities described as a wooden block, and the group leaving with valuables.
The victim was identified in the initial local account as Dimaris Isni Sitio. Police later used the name Dumaris Boru Sitio, while follow-up reports used the fuller form Dumaris Deniwati Boru Sitio. The differing name forms refer to the same 60-year-old victim found dead at her home in the Rumbai area of Pekanbaru.
The killing happened on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at a residence on Jalan Kurnia 2 in Limbungan Baru, Rumbai, Pekanbaru. Police said the case was investigated as violent theft resulting in death, with CCTV footage from inside the home becoming a central piece of evidence.
The footage shows two women arriving in a black car and entering the property through the garage area. A man then steps out of the same vehicle and appears to check the surroundings. Another man enters the yard carrying an object resembling a wrapped wooden block.
The victim, wearing a blue house dress, comes out from a room and opens a side door near the garage to receive the visitors. One of the women shakes her hand and kisses it. The victim then sits in the living room while the women remain standing and appear to speak with her.
The attack begins moments later. The footage shows a man hitting the victim repeatedly in the head area while she is seated. The assault continues after she becomes incapacitated. Two women are seen near the door area, where they appear to help keep the action from being visible outside.
The man later damages surveillance cameras in several parts of the home, including areas identified in the initial report as the living room, bedroom and kitchen. Another man arrives on a motorcycle, smokes while moving around the property, and then enters the house.
The video later shows people leaving the residence. One man exits on a motorcycle. A woman goes back to the car. Another woman and the man who attacked the victim leave carrying a bag before getting into the vehicle and driving away.
The victim’s husband had left the house earlier that morning. Police said he had asked her to go with him to handle vehicle tax matters, but she stayed home. When he returned at about 11 a.m., he found the front door open and noticed the bedroom was in disarray.
He searched the house and found his wife dead on the floor in the kitchen area. Blood was found near the bathroom area, and the victim had injuries to her face. Her body was later taken to Bhayangkara Hospital in Pekanbaru for examination.
Police said preliminary findings indicated blunt force trauma to the head. Investigators also said the household CCTV system had been installed earlier in April after an alleged attempted break-in at the home.
At the early stage of the investigation, police said at least four witnesses had been questioned and investigators were reviewing the CCTV footage to reconstruct the attack. Authorities also said several valuables were missing, including jewelry, cash, a phone and other items. Later reporting on the case listed additional seized evidence, including gold jewelry, electronic devices, a laptop, a watch, Singapore dollars and a Daihatsu Xenia believed to have been used in the crime.
Police later arrested four suspects: Anisa Florensa Tumanggor, 21; Selamat, 34; Erwandi, 40; and Lisbet Barasa, 22. Authorities described Anisa, identified by police by the initials AF during the earlier stage, as the victim’s daughter-in-law and alleged organizer of the crime. Selamat was described as the alleged main attacker. Erwandi and Lisbet were described as alleged accomplices.
Investigators said the suspects fled Riau after the killing, with some going to Aceh and others to North Sumatra. Police said two suspects were arrested in Aceh Tengah, while two others were arrested in Binjai, North Sumatra. Authorities said Selamat and Erwandi resisted during arrest and were shot in the legs by officers.
Police said the group initially planned a robbery but that the plan developed into a killing. Investigators attributed the alleged motive to resentment and a desire to take the victim’s property. Anisa allegedly told investigators she held a grudge against the victim because she had been scolded and mistreated while living with her. Police also said there was an economic motive tied to taking the victim’s belongings.
Follow-up accounts said Anisa was still legally married to the victim’s son and had also entered an unregistered marriage with Selamat about six months before the killing. Investigators said Anisa and Selamat were tied to the planning of the robbery that turned into the fatal attack.
Police said the suspects had traveled from Aceh to Pekanbaru before the crime, stayed at a hotel while preparing the plan, surveyed the victim’s home, and later spent time at a gas station area after running short of money. On the day of the killing, Anisa and Lisbet allegedly entered first and spoke with the victim before Selamat came in and posed as an online motorcycle taxi driver collecting a payment. Police said the victim refused to pay because she did not believe the order had been made.
Authorities said Selamat then struck the victim multiple times with the wooden block. After the attack, the suspects allegedly moved the victim, took valuables and fled. Police also said the wooden block believed to have been used in the killing had not yet been recovered.
The suspects were accused under provisions tied to premeditated murder and violent theft resulting in death. Police said they could face the death penalty or life imprisonment if convicted.
