LAPD officers shoot and kill man holding an ultra realistic airsoft rifle.

NEWS:

On September 17, 2022, at around 1:20 pm, Southeast Division officers responded to a radio call from a family dispute at a residence on the 400th block of West 102nd Street. As officers approached the residence, a man, later identified as 19-year-old Luis Herrera, walked out the front door holding what appeared to be a black rifle. The officers ordered Herrera to drop the rifle, but Herrera did not obey. Herrera shouldered the rifle and aimed it at the officers, resulting in an OIS. Herrera was hit by gunfire and fell to the ground.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived and pronounced Herrera deceased.

No officers or bystanders were injured during this incident.

It was later determined that the rifle Herrera was holding during the OIS was an airsoft gun.
