Seven people died this Sunday in the town of Brownsville, in the southern United States and next to the border with Mexico, after a car ran over a group at a bus stop near a shelter for the homeless and migrants.

The incident happened around 08:30 local time (14:30 GMT).

According to the authorities’ report, at least six other people were injured, some seriously.

Police arrested the driver and said they are investigating whether it was an accident or an intentional act.

Police Officer Martin Sandoval of the Brownsville Police Department told local media that the driver had been taken to the hospital for treatment and drug and alcohol testing.
